In what ways is the trial copy of a.k.a.® online limited compared to the licensed version?

The online evaluation version of a.k.a.® which you can register for here will run for 42 days and is limited to 325 items (including terms, retention classes, sources and stakeholders).There are no other limits on the functionality of the software. All editing, importing, exporting and reporting functionality is identical to the licensed version.

My online evaluation copy has expired and I haven’t finished my evaluation. Can I extend the trial period?

You can obtain an extension from Synercon which will allow you to extend the trial period.

Does a.k.a.® provide online, context sensitive help?

a.k.a.® ships with a comprehensive online help system structured to help you get started with the software. The online help is context sensitive, so whenever you see a help icon in a.k.a.® just click on it to get to the relevant section of online help.

On Premise

What are the system requirements for a.k.a.®?

a.k.a.® is PC based software compatible with MS Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7 and Vista.
The a.k.a.® program uses less than 200MB of hard disk space.
Any Pentium-class PC running MS Windows will be able to run a.k.a.®. Typically most databases use around 50MB. A very large whole-of-government database combining taxonomy and retention schedules will use around 100MB.
The network installation will operate on MS Server 2008, 2008 R2 and MS Server 2012, 2012 R2, MS Server 2016.

What database engines does a.k.a.® use?

a.k.a.® provides users with 2 database options. Users can choose whether to use:

  • SQL Express (2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016)
  • SQL Server (2008, 2012, 2014 and 2016)

An a.k.a.® Database Administration Tool is provided as part of the standard installation.

Do I have to reinstall a.k.a.® when we buy a licence?

No, the evaluation version you can download from this site contains all of the functionality of a.k.a.®. When you license your copy, you will receive a License file. Once you save the license file in the license folder your software will be fully functional with no limits.

I don’t have permission to install a.k.a.® on my system.

If you are unable to run setup.exe to install a.k.a.® it may be because you are unable to install new software on your workstation without approval from your network administrator. If this is the case, you must contact your network administrator to perform the installation for you. They should log on to your computer as the workstation administrator.
